Welcome to the Writer’s Workshop! This class, created with high schoolers in mind, will introduce teens to the world of playwriting. Each student will learn to sculpt dialogue, develop complex characters, and imaginatively structure stories, and finish the course having penned a short theater piece of their own creation. This class will explore the importance of storytelling and consider the essential question “why do we tell stories?” Through writing peer groups, class-wide discussions, and individualized feedback, students will answer that question for themselves.
At the end of the session, students will have the opportunity to hear a selection of their play read aloud by experienced theater actors for an audience of parents, family, and friends!
